Sean Biggerstaff - Oliver Wood

About Sean

Sean Biggerstaff was born under a full moon on 15th March, 1983. He is 20 and lives in Glasgow, Scotland. He plays the Gryffindor Quidditch Team Captain and Keeper, Oliver Wood.

Sean's favourite sport is cycling (not Quidditch!), although his contract with Warner Bros. will not allow him to cycle up mountains or outside. Sean was the 1st U14 at the Scottish Road Race Championship in 1994. He says that he's never crashed!

He wasn't a big fan of school, claiming that his favourite subject was lunchtime!

His favourite meal is Spaghetti Carbonara. Sean doesn't have a middle name, although he does have six toes on his left foot! Sean also owns an acre of the moon (although how this is possible we have no idea!) which was a birthday present from a relative!

His favourite musicals are Macbeth and West Side Story, and his favourite film is Ghostbusters! His favourite book is The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Sean's parents are a fireman and a community education worker. He is currently thinking of moving to the USA, although the place he'd most like to visit is Canada.

Acting Experience

Sean started acting on stage when he was 5, after joining the Maryhill drama group which he attended for 5 years. When he was 10, Sean joined the Royal Shakespeare Company where he received his first big stage role as Macduff in Macbeth. He then joined the Scottish Youth Theatre and spent 6 years performing with them.

He got his big break in the film and television industry when he was chosen from the Scottish Youth Theatre to play Tom in The Winter Guest (1997), where he was spotted by Alan Rickman (who plays Professor Snape in the movie) along with 2 other boys to accompany him to Fife for 2 months to make a film . In 1999 he asked Alan if he knew anyone who may be interested in representing him, and he was put in touch with Paul Lyon-Maris, Alan's own agent at ICM. They met at his flat in Edinburgh where he met all the required standards. A week later he was successfully auditioned for Harry Potter.

He has also appeared in one TV drama-The Crow Road (1996) as Young Darren.

Crambo

Sean used to be a guitarist in the band Crambo, and may still join them for certain songs although he is no longer a full-time member.

Harry Potter and the Philosophers (Sorcerers) Stone

It is rumoured that Sean broke his nose while filming Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone but we are not sure whether or not this is true, although we do doubt it!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Sean said ages ago that he wants to continue playing Oliver into Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because his character gets more interesting, and he'd like to develop him further. ( We don't know about the one-liner in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire!).

However, the producers are cutting Oliver Wood from the 3rd film. Thousands of fans are up in arms after Sean confirmed that he would not be in the 3rd movie, and website petitions to save Oliver Wood have already spread across the web. One of the reasons the fans are so cross is that it could threaten the existence of Quidditch in the 3rd film, as it would be difficult to show without the team captain and keeper. Unfortunately, this is also Wood's biggest film, with al his crazy diagrams and tactics which succeeded to help him achieve his dream: winning the House Quidditch Cup, and getting asked to play professionally!

Many fans have threatened to boycott PoA if Oliver is not included. Warner Brothers declined to comment about whether or not Oliver was definitely not appearing in the movie.

We don't have an online petition, but we would still be very interested to hear your views on this. Will it ruin the movie, or will it not matter? We'd also be interested in signing an online petition, if your site has one! Cookie -x-

The Future

After Harry Potter, Sean hopes to continue to act, to play high standard roles in some more movies. On the other hand, he can't wait to get back on stage, as he hasn't been near one for a year and doesn't want to lose the knack.
